Workers at the Jasic Technology welding equipment plant in Pingshan, Shenzhen, began a unionisation campaign in May 2018 over wages, overtime pay and fines. The employer and police responded with dismissals, beatings and mass detentions from late July 2018, and the campaign was still being suppressed through the end of 2018.
