Nearly 2,000 Nepali workers at WRP Asia Pacific Sdn Bhd, a glove factory in Sepang, Selangor, picketed for three days from about 27 January 2019 after the company failed to pay wages since November 2018. The Labour Department confirmed three months of unpaid wages, also found delayed overtime payments and unlawful wage deductions, and announced it would take the company to court. Management agreed to settle the outstanding salaries and overtime by 28 February 2019.
- Workers involved
- 2,000 (estimated)
- Outcome
- Partial – Sources describe a three-day strike that ended on 29 January 2019 without stating the start day, so 27 January is inferred from the three-day duration confirmed by the Sepang police chief. Turnout is given as 'nearly 2,000' and '2,000' Nepali workers, an estimate rather than a roster. Management agreed to pay arrears and overtime by 28 February; the Labour Department announced it would prosecute, and WRP said it had settled the matter and denied wrongdoing.
