View on map Part of: Philippine jeepney strike against PUV modernisation, 2017
The transport group PISTON and allied organisations held a two-day nationwide jeepney strike on 16 and 17 October 2017 against the government's Public Utility Vehicle Modernisation Programme, which requires jeepneys older than 15 years to be replaced with Euro-4 compliant units. Malacañang suspended classes and government work, and police were deployed along affected routes. PISTON claimed up to 90% of routes were paralysed while the LTFRB downplayed the impact. Impact claims conflict: PISTON said up to 90% of public transport was paralysed while the LTFRB said the effect on commuters was small.

- Outcome
- Partial – No reliable participant count exists; the BBC cited PISTON's claim that more than 6,000 jeepney drivers would be affected by the phaseout in one area, which is not a strike headcount, so the figure is left empty. The strike forced the suspension of classes and government work nationwide on 16 October (repeated on 17 October), but the modernisation programme continued and PISTON cancelled a further strike planned for 4-5 December 2017.
