Unions led by KSPI called a national strike on 31 October and 1 November 2013 demanding a 50% rise in the minimum wage, universal health coverage and the abolition of outsourcing. Workers picketed factories in Bekasi, Cikarang, Tangerang and Jakarta industrial estates, and factories in Java's industrial hubs stopped production. Clashes in several cities injured 17 protesters, and the 9% minimum-wage increase later agreed for Jakarta was rejected by unions as below inflation.

Workers involved
1,500,000 (estimated)
Outcome
Partial – Turnout ranges from 60,000 in the capital and surrounding districts (police, via AFP/IndustryWeek) to 1.5 million on Java (union leaders, IndustriALL) and two million across 150 districts (Liputan6). IndustriALL reported 17 protesters injured in clashes; the Jakarta governor and employers then agreed a 9% rise that unions rejected as below inflation, so the action is recorded as partial.
Issues
Contract Status, Living Wage, Social Security
