More than two million Indonesian factory workers joined a one-day national strike on 3 October 2012 to demand higher wages and an end to contract labour. About 200,000 workers marched in the industrial city of Bekasi just outside Jakarta, and unions also opposed a proposal for workers to pay 2% of their wages towards health insurance. Union turnout figures were not independently verified.

Workers involved
2,000,000 (estimated)
Outcome
Unknown – Turnout is disputed: union leaders said more than two million workers joined in 24 cities (AP copy carried by the San Diego Union-Tribune), while the BBC reported 'tens of thousands' and an employer association disputed the union count without giving its own figure. No wage award followed directly from the one-day action, so the outcome is recorded as unknown.
