About 5,000 sugar farm workers and 500 sugar mill workers of the Cojuangco-owned Hacienda Luisita in Tarlac, organised by the United Luisita Workers Union and the Central Azucarera de Tarlac Labor Union, went on strike on 6 November 2004 to demand, among other things, the reinstatement of 327 workers laid off by the Hacienda Luisita management. Police and military forces dispersed the picket on 16 November 2004, killing seven strikers and wounding at least 200; the Hacienda Luisita management's own Supreme Court pleadings record that the company ceased operations as a result of the strike. Survivors and victims' families have since campaigned for justice, and Rappler reported in 2016 that no trial had been held.

Outcome
Lost – The striker's demands are not recorded as conceded and the picket was broken up by force on 16 November 2004; no source in this batch records a settlement on the reinstatement of the 327 laid-off workers. Death tolls disagree: Bulatlat reports seven strikers killed and at least 200 wounded, noting that other reports said 14 were killed, while Rappler records seven dead including Juancho Sanchez. Coordinates are for Tarlac City; the estate address is approximate.
