Five supervisory workers leading a drive to replace the company-favoured CROC union at the Kukdong International Mexico apparel plant in Atlixco, Puebla were dismissed on 3 January 2001; hundreds of workers stopped work from 9 to 11 January and riot police cleared the plant. After an international campaign by labour and student groups the workers were substantially reinstated, and by September 2001 they had established the independent union SITEKIM and signed a collective agreement with the renamed company Mex Mode.
